Organized by the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society and supported by Ming Pao and Ming Pao Weekly, the “People’s Choice for the Best Asian Film” polling program has found that 《Red Cliff》 was voted among Hong Kong people and students their choices of the best Asian film. For the first time, the polling program invited Hong Kong people and students in two categories to vote for the very best of Asian Cinema from six nominated best films of the 3rd Asia Film Awards. Other than 《Red Cliff》 from the Chinese mainland, the other five nominated films included 《Forever Enthralled》from the Chinese mainland, 《The Good, the Bad, the Weird》 from South Korea, 《Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea》 from Japan, 《The Rainbow Troops》from Indonesia and 《Tokyo Sonata》from Japan/the Netherlands/Hong Kong, all were screened publicly during March in Hong Kong.
