Presented by the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS), the 4th Asian Film Awards (AFA) announced today it is widening film submission for the AFA nomination for the first time.  This is to encourage greater participation from all territories in Asia.

Launched in 2007, the AFA is a pioneering programme honouring filmmakers with outstanding achievements in the field of Asian cinema.  The AFA is the only platform in the world that brings together the best cinematic talents of Asia, drawing film fans and professionals from all across the globe.

In the coming 4th AFA, which aims at showcasing Asian film talents at a time when Asian cinema are increasingly attracting international attention, film submission will be open to individual submission to recognize and honour the outstanding achievements of all Asian talents across the board.

"The open submission allows the Asian Film Awards to meet the growing demands from filmmakers all across Asia wishing to participate in the AFA," said the Executive Director of the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society, Ms SHAW Soo Wei.

Together with the newly added open submission, the 4th AFA now comprises three channels for submission which are: (i) the 12 official Submission Organizations; (ii) the Jury; and (iii) open submission. Films can be submitted directly online at http://apps.asianfilmawards.asia/submission/

Film submission for nomination is now open until November 30, 2009.  Nominees for the 4th Asian Film Awards will be announced at least four weeks before the AFA Presentation Ceremony, which will be held on March 22, 2010.
